Is having twins really that different?

This is a question I have been asking myself for awhile now.  Is having twins really that different?  I have only ever had twins.  I don't know what it is like to have one baby.  For the most part, my thinking is if you can do it with one you can do it with two.  I try my hardest to stick to this.  We still go places.  We go on play dates.  We go to the grocery store.  We run errands.  We got to story time at the library.  We do activities at home.  I really try to make sure I don't stop doing things because it is too hard, because that just means it is too hard for me.  They still deserve those experiences that I think are important for having a well rounded children.

On the other hands there are things that I just can't do.  We have a pool they can swim in... they have been in it 4 times all summer.  I just can't take them by myself.  I don't even feel bad about this one because safety is the main issue.  Right now we don't go to the park that much because with them walking but not really being aware of their surroundings it is really hard.  Ben usually sticks close by, but Penny is everywhere.  But there are definitely times they both want to go completely separate ways to explore.  This is really hard for me.  Now I can say this is a safety issue as well, and to some extent it is, but mainly it is a sanity issue.  I just can't handle it at this phase in their development.  I also think before I do anything "How is this going to effect the schedule?"  We are very scheduled people and it's hard for everyone to waiver from that schedule.

I guess I will never have the answer to this questions, but I always wonder... Is having twins really that different?

What do you think?

  1. Sure its different! Its got to be a lot harder than having 1! Mine arent twins but they are all right at 1 year apart my last 2 only 11 months lol
I hear ya though things are more difficult. We go to the park a lot. We pick a park that is small and i can see easily everywhere. We literally go to the park at least once a day when its nice bc its the only place i feel like they can run wild and i can just sit and watch them.
    Good luck sister!

  3. They don't call it double trouble for nothing! Part of it is their age. I avoided the park all summer because Addison wasn't big enough to do anything without help which made playing with Claire very difficult. Save the park for when Daddy can help!

  4. My mom had four girls, one set of twins. I'm the oldest and the twins came next, I'm pretty sure she would agree that it is definitely different!

  6. I don't know, since I don't have twins, but I would imagine it is VERY different. You have two that are going through the stages at the same time. You don't have a 1st time for {fill in the blank} and a few years later another 1st time...and a few thoughts on how to react differently. I can only imagine some things would be nice, like one time of no sleep for the first two years, but other things would be difficult, like feeding times through the first few years.
