Mommy Truce

Before I was a parent I had some many ideas of what kind of a parent I would be.  Some of them I have become, others I have not.  I was never going to feed them unhealthy food.  I was not going to let them watch tv until they were 2 then only educational tv for shorts amount of time.  I would never yell at me children especially in public.  I was going to have well behaved children who respected me and others, because I had shown them how and used gentle discipline to instil this.  I had it all planned out.

I was quick to dole out the criticism to those who didn't.  If your child acted up in the grocery store and you didn't handle it, you were ignoring you child, but if you handled it with harsh words I would think "no wonder your child acts up."  Seeing kids eat McDonalds was cringe worthy, I mean it's so unhealthy, why would you feed it to your children?  I blamed tv for so many problems with kids and thought it was just lazy parenting...

I'm sorry parents!  I thought I knew how to do it, but I had no clue!
I put a show on the tv to get dinner on the table from time to time.
I have lost my temper with my little toddlers.
I have put one of my babies in time out already, and I am absolutely positive I will again.
I have a baby who cries at the grocery store.... no matter what I do.

And yes..... They have had McDonalds....

Let's make a deal.  Don't judge me and I won't judge you.  Let's call a truce in the mommy wars and just agree we are all doing our best.  As mothers we wake up and make the hard decisions everyday.  We all love our families and are doing the best for our own families.  So sorry to all those I judged before I had walked in your shoes, and for those in my old place, please don't judge me too harshly.  You never know how life plays out.  You just have to roll with the punches sometimes...

  8. I can totally relate to this! Even very recently. Before we adopted our third child 5 months ago I was proud of the fact that my kids only watched 2 hours of tv a week. Well now that #3 has come along, they watch 3 hours a day! That's just one of my many, many falls after pride. :-)

  9. I'm a new follower from the Blog Walk. Also a mom of twins. I sympathize and totally understand this post. TV would be at the top of my list of things I thought would not happen. Sigh.
